A little bit of the
Welsh countryside in the city
J&B The shop London is an ongoing project for two London based
makers Jessie Chorley and Buddug Humphreys both originally from
Snowdonia North Wales
The pair first Met while
studying on an Art Foundation course in the small Welsh University town
of Bangor. In 2001 they both then went on to study seperate disciplines
in London art schools. Jessie completed her BA in Textiles at Goldsmiths
College University of London and BA in Jewellery Design and
Silversmithing from Sir John Cass College, London Guildhall University.
Jessie and Buddug started their collaboration from
a small tabletop stall at East London's Broadway market in the summer
of 2005.
In 2008 they opened their first shop in an attic at 146 Columbia rd and
in the Summer of 2010 they moved to the ground floor shop of 158 a
Columbia rd.
Although they work in separate disciplines their work compliments each
other beautifully and weaves a magical story throughout made even richer
by their talents and shared determination of using the hand made.
Jessie
and Buddug have a concept that they are determined to follow- to make
everything by hand using traditional making techniques. Buddug creates
her works using tradition Jewellery techniques, enamelling and Welding
while Jessie concentrates on traditional hand embroidery.
The pair are dedicated to the Re-working of found objects and recycling is prominent throughout their work and shop
158 a Columbia Road is decorated in their signature Re-worked vintage and homemade style.
Hand embroidered bunting, vintage petticoats and decoupage picture
frames hang in the window an invitation almost to go back in time.
Inside a traditional kitchen dresser stands adorned with an array of
in-house made enamel plates and jewellery. Journals and covered gift
boxes lay on lace edged clothes covering worn tables and a decoupage
tray is adorned in tins, odds and ends of clothing and delicate china
tea cups filled with dusky pink wax to make a perfect boudoir candle
This shop encompasses the warm feeling of discovering a one off
Jessie and Buddug have mastered the combination of personalisation and
the hand made seamlessly alongside each other
